¿How many routes exist?

There are three routes that you can choose: The Mollepata, the classic and the one day Trail. The longest and most adventurous trail is Mollepata, in wich you can see many environments, like flora and fauna, a series of ruins, tunnels and other constructions completes the view until you can get to the Puerta del Sol (The sun gate) which is located on the Machu Picchu Mountain.

The classic trail

This route takes around 4 to 5 days to complete. It starts at the Urubamba River at 2800 meters above the sea level.
These segments are united for Ruins of Patallacta, who was a site of religious and economics functions. And then, you can reach the Willkaqaray hill, a place where Inca soldiers custodies the entire population and the products.

Wayllapata is a small but picturesque village where around 400 persons inhabited the place; you can find horses, donkeys and mules to do the transportation.

¿How many people can pass through the Inca Trail?

¿When is the best time to visit Machu Picchu?

The city and the citadel of Machu Picchu are located at 2400 meters above sea level, which makes it have a semi-tropical climate.

Weather conditions

In the citadel of Machu Picchu vary by course of the day, are hot and humid in the day and cool at night, the temperature stable between 12 and 14 degrees.

The months of March and December are designated as rainy months (1955 mm annually), but the rain is interspersed with a series of intense solar glare.

You can say that to visit Cusco should consider climate preference, if you are more sensitive to cold, or if the rain is a nuisance.
From January to March rainfall is intense, April, November and December have a good atmosphere and the temperature is so low; May and October have a pleasant climate. June, July, August and September are the best months to visit Machu Picchu, because there is very little rain, being slightly cooler nights.

Visitors should be aware that in the months of January and April the roads are closed due to landslides and floods constants impairing transport.

Recommendations

So it is advisable to wear good shoes for walks, drinking plenty of fluids is essential and vital for walks and the same movement through the city and citadel of Machu Picchu, also very useful to carry an umbrella if the rain is a drawback.
